About Me
Nicky Rains
Holistic Sleep Coach
Hello, I’m Nicky, mum to Sira and Eli, holistic sleep coach and Lactation Counsellor.
Sira and Eli are the reason behind the work that I now do. Having lived 2 experiences of pregnancy, childbirth, post-partum and beyond, I get it. Becoming a parent is hard and all too commonly, a journey full of complications.
Looking back, so many of the feeding and sleep challenges my first baby and I faced were inter-related. Yet despite all the health professionals I saw, no one ever joined up the dots for me or highlighted the long-standing consequences that choices being made would have on the future sleep and overall health of both myself and my child.
So, bringing together my experience both as a sleep and lactation professional as well as a mother, I have now made it my purpose to help plug the knowledge gaps and put the pieces of the puzzle together holistically, so that families like you, can make better informed choices for your children.
My Approach
I am passionate about sleep and my ultimate goal is to help you and your whole family to optimize the sleep you get in a way that feels respectful and right to you. My approach is:
Holistic & focused on root causes
Every child is perfectly unique. Providing a one size fits all approach is simply not helpful or effective for anyone. Sleep is complex and influenced by so many different factors. A truly holistic approach is about so much more than just a set of sleep strategies. Developmental, feeding, lifestyle and health needs, as well as personality and sensory preferences, all inter-relate to contribute to sleep. So to achieve real and sustainable improvements in sleep for your family, together, we will look holistically at your child, your parenting style and family needs to identify and make changes at the root cause level.
Attachment-focused & Responsive
The approach and methods I use are about respecting and supporting you, your child and the connection that you have together. To fall asleep, a child (or adult for that matter!) needs to be in a place of calm and comfort. So it only seems logical that responding to a child’s needs, comforting and building trust and connection is a requirement for sleep. Often we can improve sleep with micro changes to routines, timings, feeding or environment. None of which has anything to do with changing the way you respond to your child! But let’s imagine that you’ve tried absolutely everything and your child’s sleep has become unsustainable. You’re exhausted and desperately want to make changes but neither ignoring your child, nor waiting it out feels like the right solution to you. Good news! There are a whole range of options somewhere inbetween that allow you to gently optimize sleep whilst continuing to respond to your child. I will be with you, every step of the way to guide you through your options, assess how your child is responding to any changes and co-develop our plan to help you reach your specific sleep goals.
Evidence-based
There is no “normal” when it comes to infant sleep. Variation exists in terms of frequency, duration and how a baby sleeps yet sadly, misleading data of what is “normal” is often widely shared to scare monger, exhausted parents into buying typically expensive, quick-fix sleep “solutions”. Whether we look at so-called sleep “regressions”, how much sleep children need or optimal ways for a child to fall asleep, there is an exponential amount of mis-information online. I remember as a first time mum just how confusing and overwhelming it all felt! So, knowing how that feels, I base my approach on current research and evidence so you can make informed decisions for your family! I will let you know what is typical and age appropriate for your child based on the evidence we do have.
1:1 Support
As a mum of two myself, I know exactly how overwhelming it can feel when you are navigating sleep and nothing seems to work. Just like you, I found myself facing a difficult choice, between “wait it out” or “cry it out” methods. Neither of which I found sustainable, realistic or proven to be conducive to you or your child’s long-term health and well-being.
But it doesn’t have to be this way and that has been my motivation to bring holistic, evidence-based 1:1 sleep support to families like you. Explore our full range of 1:1 support options below. We look forward to working together to understand and optimize your child’s sleep.

Baby S
1 Year
The main struggle I was facing was my baby’s cat naps. It was never more than 20 – 30 mins at a time and we were doing 3 -5 naps a day. I was exhausted. She was able to self sooth herself and fall asleep on her own at one point but it didn’t make her sleep longer! After a few days of working with Nicky, my baby started extending her naps which was amazing to experience. By the end of week 2, my baby was taking only 2 naps a day. I even had to wake her up after 2 hours of sleeping in the morning. I have never imagined that something like that could happen to me. I am ever so grateful for the support and advice Nicky gave me. She was so easy to talk to, kind and committed to us.
Thank you so much Nicky. You are amazing!!
